The Going Through Test: Facing Your Goliaths Like the Warrior You Are

This Goliath too shall pass
Ever felt like life keeps throwing one test after another at you? Between juggling work, motherhood, relationships, and trying to find five minutes of peace for yourself, it’s easy to wonder if you’re being tested—or tortured. But here’s a truth that might surprise you: tests are the stepping stones to promotion.

Before we’re elevated in life, we’re stretched. Tested. Shaken. Refined. It’s not punishment—it’s preparation.

So let’s stop running from the hard stuff. Let’s face our Goliaths head-on.

THE STORY WE ALL KNOW (BUT NEED TO REHEAR)

David wasn’t supposed to win. He was young, inexperienced, and standing in front of a giant that terrified everyone else. But while Goliath had the size, David had the faith.

When the lion came, David fought. When the bear came, he fought. And when Goliath came, he didn’t back down. Armed with nothing but a sling, a stone, and belief in something greater, he faced his fear and conquered it.

That’s what we’re called to do too. Face our Goliaths.

THIS GOLIATH TOO SHALL PASS

Every woman has her own Goliaths.
Maybe yours is:

  • A stack of bills that won’t stop growing.

  • A marriage that’s hanging by a thread.

  • A job that drains your spirit.

  • Or maybe just the quiet exhaustion of being everything to everyone.

Here’s the thing: you don’t have to tackle every Goliath at once.
Take them one at a time. One bill. One conversation. One self-care day.

You’ll find strength in movement. You’ll build confidence in action. And soon, you’ll look back and realize the giant you thought would crush you… actually made you stronger.

WHEN WE RUN FROM OUR GOLIATHS

Running feels easier in the moment, but it only delays the lesson. The test doesn’t go away—it just shows up in another form, in another season, wearing a different face.

You can’t fail life’s tests, but you can repeat them.
So instead of circling the same mountain again and again, decide to climb it.

You may tremble. You may cry. But climb anyway.

THE GOING THROUGH TEST

Everyone’s “going through” something. The real test isn’t what you’re facing—it’s how you face it.

When we go through trials, our faith (and our focus) are strengthened like muscles. The more we use them, the stronger they become.

As Pastor Rick Warren puts it, we’ll face four common “tests” in life:

1. The Pressure Test

How do you handle stress? Do you panic, or do you pause and pray (or breathe deeply before saying something you’ll regret)?

2. The People Test

When people disappoint you—and they will—do you grow bitter or better? Sometimes, difficult people are just tools sharpening our patience and empathy.

3. The Persistence Test

Will you keep showing up even when the results are slow to come? Commitment is where character is built.

4. The Priorities Test

What comes first in your life? Think about where your time, thoughts, and money go. That’s what you’re truly prioritizing.

These aren’t punishments—they’re invitations to grow.

HOW TO PASS THE TESTS

Here’s how you stay grounded when life feels like one long exam:

  • Don’t go backward. Avoid slipping into old habits that once numbed the pain but never solved it.

  • Don’t compare. Someone else’s peace might look perfect, but you don’t know their process.

  • Don’t resent. Everyone’s on a different timeline. Your turn will come.

  • Don’t blame. Shift your focus from “Why me?” to “What can I learn from this?”

REFLECT, RESET, RISE

Think back to a time you thought you wouldn’t make it through. You did, right? You may have crawled, cried, or clung to hope by a thread—but you made it.

So what did that season teach you?
What strength did it uncover in you?
What peace came after the storm?

That’s what this test is doing too—building the next version of you.

A WORD FOR EVERY STRUGGLING WOMAN

You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You’re becoming.

Your Goliaths aren’t here to defeat you—they’re here to reveal you.
So take a breath. Pick up your sling. And remind yourself:

This Goliath too shall pass.

Dare to believe in the power of you.
